London is an inspiring place with architectural gems on every corner of the city. While I was in GRAD school, I had a wonderful opportunity to visit London and sketch under the direction of Stephanie Travis (who just recently wrote this awesome BOOK on sketching.)

I found that sketching began to open my eyes to details, forced me to stop and absorb the city scenes. I'm using these sketches as inspiration to get back to pen and paper. I feel connected to PLACES when I discover them through my camera but I feel informed and inspired by the art of capturing them by hand.

The majority of these sketches were done with my pens of choice, the black UNIBALL ink pen and a COPIC fine point. I used these WATERCOLORS on a few as well and filled up these two SKETCH - BOOKS. Most sketches were done in 15 minutes - 1 hour sittings.

If you are visiting London, these landmarks are a must see. You can use this MAP to find them!
If you'd like, you can see more sketches in my PORTFOLIO.

Let me know what you think! What is your reaction to city sketches versus city photos? Have you been to any of these PLACES in London? What's your favorite? ... I think CITY HALL might be mine, you can even walk up the circular ramp to the first two levels!
